Advanced Architecture 2: Home Design

This EXCITING, INCREDIBLE AND LONG AWAITED, NINE-LESSON/18 WEEK course was designed for students who have completed the Introduction to Architecture Course. Throughout the nine lessons of this course, students will design their own homes!. Each lesson we will concentrate on designing and personalizing a specific room of our homes. Students will be expected to: design each room in plan, interior elevations and model, to plan the interior decorating for each room and to create a shopping budget for everything that they plan to include in homes. By the end of the course, students will have designed a home specific to their personal tastes and will have an approximation of what decorating their homes will cost . This course provides more specific architectural and mathematical challenges for students who are interested in learning about more architecture and some interior design. This course does not require the papers of Introduction to Architecture or Advanced Architecture 1, but there will be plenty of work to challenge students.

Students may make their models with SketchUp, AutoCad, Minecraft, Legos, Wood, Paper, Cardboard or whatever they prefer. Their preference needs to be consistent throughout the entire course.

This nine lesson course is taken asynchronously through websites and emails. Students must fully complete each lesson before moving on the to the next lesson. The course may be taken over 9 or 18 weeks with due dates weekly or every other week. (Special circumstances may be made for students needing a more flexible schedule). Schedules may be revised as necessary with parental permission, but deadlines are encouraged. This course is highly individualized. Emailed reviews and grades provide students the opportunity to grow and excel according to their abilities. Students should expect to work on the course for 6-10 hours per lesson. Usually 1/2 high school credit is suggested (based on 90 hours of course work). The work in this course will provide significant work for college applications.
