The Three Great Lenten Disciplines: Fasting, Almsgiving, and Prayer
Have you ever entered a Lenten period thinking, "Oh, wow! I get to pray, fast, and give alms more!"? Most of us haven't. But that's because we don't understand the beauty of these practices and the great benefit we can get from them. In this course, we will link these important disciplines to the temptation of Adam and Eve (the fruit was good to eat, pleasant to the eyes, and desirable to make one wise) and the three temptations of Christ, in which He overcame the basic temptations that Adam and Eve succumbed to. Then, we will talk about how, through God's grace and our own practice of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer, we can rise up to new life in Christ.
This class is offered twice, once in the fall semester, once in the spring semester. Both courses are the same. Students can register for whichever semester is best for their schedule.
