French at the CLRC

From Latin roots to rich literary, cultural, and artistic contributions, the French language provides an excellent complement to a Classical education. Students of French have a unique access to the writings of authors like Blaise Pascal, Molière, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, and Albert Camus, and they gain a key perspective to events that have shaped our world such as the French Revolution or the Enlightenment.

Today, French is an official language in 29 countries across North America, Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia. It is a primary language for business and international affairs and remains a dynamic language across a diverse range of cultures.

Learning French allows students to activate their classical knowledge, engage with a rich literary and cultural tradition, and prepare for a global future.

We are pleased to offer French 1-AP French at the CLRC. Our French program follows the D’Accord textbook series. Level 1 may be completed either in middle school (over the course of four semesters) or in high school (over 2 semesters).
