High School Spanish 3
his course builds on the concepts learned in High School Spanish 1 and 2, focusing on comprehension and composition. Students review grammar, increase their vocabulary base, practice reading and oral comprehension, improve written and spoken communication, and study the literature and cultures of various Spanish speaking countries. Students become proficient in most verb tenses, converse about their lives, and read and write in Spanish independently.
The class includes 30 hours of live, online instruction per semester. Each week students study extensive vocabulary lists; review grammar concepts; read and discuss abridged versions of El Cid, Cuentos del Conde de Lucanor, and Don Quijote; watch episodes of Destinos; and practice speaking about their daily lives. Writing assignments consist of weekly comprehension questions and brief written summaries with several short (1-3 page) creative and analytical papers based upon the readings and grammatical structures introduced in the live class sessions.
High School Spanish 3 is designed for students who have completed CLRC High School Spanish 2 or have been introduced to all of the Spanish verb tenses and are capable of writing paragraph summaries in Spanish.
Students are encouraged to take the National Spanish Exam and are provided with practice questions and support to prepare for the exam.
High School Spanish 3 is available as an honors level course. Additional assignments are required which include more advanced reading, and more in-depth and complex grammatical topics.
Taking Advanced Conversational Spanish as a supplement to this class is highly recommended for practice with pronunciation and conversation.
High school students may be awarded 1 Language credit upon completion of this course.
Prerequisites: CLRC Spanish 2 (Honors)
