Middle School German 1
Students in our Middle School German classes will learn to not only speak in German, but will build their reading and writing skills in German as well. Weekly stories, skits, games, songs, and worksheets all serve to build students’ confidence and prepare them to recognize and use German in a real-world setting.
The Middle School program allows students to complete the equivalent of High School German 1 over the course of two years (Middle School German 1 and 2). Students who complete both middle school classes may go directly into our High School German 2 class. CLRC Middle School German classes offer a blended approach to German acquisition, combining approximately 30 hours of live instruction, traditional assignments that are submitted to the instructor, and regular homework that is completed through an online platform.
About the textbook:
Middle School German 1 and 2 use a textbook called Klasse! This Klasse! series is paired with an online platform, which includes an Ebook and a workbook. Both allow students to engage with the text, view videos, and practice pronunciation. Homework completed on the online platform provides instant correction and feedback, allowing students to target areas needing more attention.
The CLRC high school German program uses the Klasse! textbook series by the renowned Klett Verlag. Klasse! is an accredited program which is keyed to the Goethe Institute or DSD proficiency levels. This curriculum is used in schools around the world and within Germany for non-native speakers. Its innovative style and engaging presentation encourage students to speak and interact with a wide range of activities and polished audio-visual aides. Step-by step reinforcement of concepts and easy to access modules ensure that students build their language skills on a firm foundation.
For Middle School German 1, students will purchase the A1.1 level. The text is available in both digital and paper formats. Students should also purchase the online workbook where assignments can be practiced before they are graded. Both textbook and workbook are available directly from the publisher, using the link below.
Klett offers additional glossaries, vocabulary lists and extra practice online for students, as well as in depth course materials for those wanting to pursue official testing with the Goethe Institute or another equivalent certification. More information will be provided in the course syllabus.
