Middle School Greek I
Middle School Greek I is designed for beginning Greek students ages 11 - 14. It uses the same text as Greek 1 in the high school Greek program –Athenaze: An Introduction to Ancient Greek — but moves more slowly. Chapters 1 – 6α are covered over two semesters instead of the 10 chapters covered in Greek 1.
Middle School Greek I covers 1st and 2nd declension nouns and adjectives; personal, possessive, and intensive pronouns and adjectives; and adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions. -ω verbs, -α and –ε contract verbs, and the verb εἰμί are introduced in the present tense; indicative, infinitive, and imperative moods in the active voice. The course includes instruction in English grammar as new concepts are introduced in Greek. Grammatical concepts discussed include the direct object, subject complements, transitive and intransitive verbs, subject and verb agreement, prepositions and the use of adjectives and adverbs.
Classes meet for one and a half hours a week with approximately 30 minutes per day of homework.
"The Greek classes, taught by highly qualified instructors, provide students with interactive, feedback-rich instruction. The kids are challenged but develop a warm sense of camaraderie."
