Shakespeare for Dummies

Preformed July 30th 2022

Age: High School

Cast Size: 20 people maximum

Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles–most of this and more in this illuminated USC production of Shakespeare for Dummies.  The play follows a grandfather and his grandchild, as he tells the kid about the wonders of Shakespeare through abridged versions of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Things don’t always go as planned, but in a way that will, as says the Bard, leave you in stitches.  This is a hilarious production for actors and audience alike, and one very much open to comedic interpretation.

This production is for older students, mostly high school age, regardless of theatrical experience. There will be 5 rehearsals, with the first being a slideshow about the short plays  and discussion of them.  It is acceptable if actors have to miss a rehearsal or two, but it is preferred they come whenever possible.  Line memorization is not required and the script is provided. Costumes are preferred, but can be low-effort (creativity is encouraged). Casting and communications will be done on the USC’s website
